"Do You Take Insurance?" Here's Our Answer:

One of the first questions many new clients ask us is, “Do you accept insurance?”

It’s an important question — and the short answer is no, we are a private pay practice.

We understand that choosing not to use insurance is a big decision, and we didn’t make it lightly. Here’s why we’ve chosen this route:

Most Insurance Plans Don’t Cover Couples Therapy

While we work with both individuals and couples, the majority of our clients come to us for relationship support. Unfortunately, most insurance companies don’t reimburse for couples counseling unless one partner is diagnosed with a mental health condition. Many of our clients choose us because they want expert couples counseling — and they want it done right, regardless of what insurance deems necessary.

You Deserve Tailored, Not Standardized, Care

Insurance companies often dictate how therapy should go — from how long it lasts to what it should focus on. When it comes to couples counseling, we don't think it's helpful for insurance companies to tell us how we can do our job. It's not effective.

Every relationship has its own unique history, dynamics, and challenges. But insurance companies often require therapists to follow rigid treatment models or focus only on individual diagnoses, not the relationship as a whole. That approach simply doesn’t work for most couples. By not accepting insurance, we’re able to craft sessions around both of you — your communication patterns, your values, your goals — and support your relationship in a way that’s flexible, collaborative, and grounded in what actually works for you.

Your Privacy Matters

One major reason we’ve opted out of insurance is to protect your privacy. When therapists bill insurance, they’re required to assign a mental health diagnosis and submit detailed treatment information. This data becomes part of your permanent health record — something many clients aren’t comfortable with. By paying privately, your care remains entirely confidential and under your control.

Better Conditions for Therapists = Better Care for You

Insurance paperwork, billing issues, and limitations can wear therapists down. By staying out of that system, our counselors are able to give you their full attention, creativity, and energy. When therapists aren’t overwhelmed by bureaucracy, they have more room to do what they do best — help people thrive.

Why Clients Choose Us Anyway

Even without insurance, our clients consistently tell us their couples therapist is worth every penny. People come to Connection Couples Counseling because they want counseling that actually works. Our team is made up of highly trained, carefully selected clinicians who specialize in effective, connection-focused care. You're not just paying for a session — you're investing in meaningful change.
